The modern workplace has undergone a dramatic transformation. What began as a temporary shift toward remote work has evolved into a permanent business strategy for organizations across nearly every industry. Today, hybrid work models where employees split time between home, the office and other locations have become the preferred way of working for millions of professionals.

It wasn’t long ago that business phone systems were something familiar to the Don Draper’s of the Mad Men era with switchboard operators and simple landlines.

Since the digital revolution, however, these systems have undergone a remarkable transformation worthy of Star Trek with cloud-based solutions and sophisticated game-changing technology for effective communication in an ever-increasing fast-paced business environment.

Technology has the power to render once ubiquitous devices into the curio cabinet of the forgotten (think VCRs, pagers, or fax machines) or it can enhance everyday things to an entirely new level like smartphones, smart cars, and smart televisions.

While those smartphones are responsible for banishing landlines from many homes – more than 90 percent of U.S. adults lived in households that had operational landline phones in 2004, and 20 years later that number is under 30 percent – they haven’t laid a glove on business phone systems which are alive and well.

The analog landline phone system of any school has long been an unsung hero toiling selflessly in the background of a typical day. Parents use the phone to tell the staff if their children are ill or will be missing school for some other reason.
